OUR EUROPA CONFERENCE LEAGUE'S MATCH REPORT
Chelsea overcame a slow start to dominate Legia Warsaw in their Europa Conference League quarter-final first leg, all but securing their place in the semifinals with a 3-0 win.
Despite another goalless first half—their seventh in a row—the Blues exploded after the break. Teenager Tyrique George opened the scoring, pouncing on a rebound, before Noni Madueke added a brace. His second came just 25 seconds after Christopher Nkunku’s missed penalty, sealing a commanding lead ahead of next week’s return leg at Stamford Bridge.
Legia’s ultras lit up the Polish Army Stadium with flares, but Chelsea’s superior depth proved decisive. Even after substituting Cole Palmer at halftime, the Blues’ firepower was too much. Reece James and Jadon Sancho played key roles in the goals, while Legia’s goalkeeper, Kacper Tobiasz, had a night to forget.
With the tie all but settled, manager Enzo Maresca can now shift focus to Chelsea’s Premier League push, starting with Sunday’s clash against Ipswich. The second leg offers a chance to rotate before turning attention to Fulham.
Meanwhile, Legia’s traveling fans—fresh from a five-match away ban—will descend on Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea’s performance suggests they’ll face an uphill battle.
