This guide focuses on RuneScape gold maximizing Slayer XP — not loot, not bossing, not AFK-ability — so tasks that are slow or have poor XP rates are prime candidates for blocking. That said, always prioritize enjoyment. Efficiency is great, but if a task consistently drains your motivation, don't hesitate to block it,even if it's not "meta" to do so.
1. Hellhounds
Hellhounds are one of the most commonly blocked tasks for high-level players, and for good reason. They are single-target,have no notable drops (outside of the rare clue scroll or Smouldering Stone),and are not particularly fast to kill. While the Cerberus Slayer boss does drop valuable crystals like the Primordial,Pegasian, and Eternal,it's not a viable XP source — it's a money-making boss.
For XP-focused players,Hellhounds are a drain on time and resources. Plus, their high task weight means you'll see them assigned often unless you block them.
2. Cave Krakens
Like Hellhounds,Cave Krakens have a very high task weight and show up frequently. Unfortunately, they can't be killed efficiently with melee or ranged weapons — you're forced to use magic, and even then,it's single-target only.
Despite the chance at a Kraken Tentacle or Trident of the Seas, the Kraken is painfully slow XP and not worth the time investment if you're chasing 99 Slayer. The block list is ideal for high-weight,low-XP monsters like these.
3. Black Dragons
Black Dragons are tanky, slow to kill, and logistically annoying. You'll need either a Dragonfire shield or Antifire Potions, and ideally a Dragon Hunter Lance for efficient kills — not a cheap investment for a Slayer-only task.
Duradel typically assigns them in very small amounts (10-20),which contradicts our goal of doing high-volume,high-XP tasks in safe spots or cannon-friendly areas. Sure, the bones are good for Prayer XP,but overall,Black Dragons just don't contribute meaningfully to Slayer XP gains.
4. Greater Demons & Black Demons
Greater Demons Task Weight: 9
Black Demons Task Weight: 8
These two should almost always be blocked for similar reasons. They are single-target,have a poor drop table, and are often found in crowded spots where other players may crash or compete for kills.
They also take a while to kill and are frequently assigned in large quantities — sometimes 130 to 200 at a time. This leads to long, tedious tasks with little reward. If you're an Ironman, they might be more useful for OSRS GP for sale grinding out demon-specific drops or farming shards, but for the average player, these are massive XP sinks.
